We know where GHG emissions come from in Cary, and we have a strategy for achieving a 96% reduction by 2050.

We are expecting two times as many dangerously hot days (heat index of “feels like” temperature above 100°F) this year than 30 years ago.

Energy used to power our homes and businesses accounts for 59% of our total community GHG emissions.

Cary has 15 acres of parkland for every 1,000 people, which is just above the national average of 10 acres.

Nearly half of the waste we throw away is organic material that could be composted (44%) or reusable (6%).

Transportation accounts for 38% of our community's GHG emissions - much of that coming from residents driving alone.

In 2001, Cary became the first municipality in the state to pump reclaimed water to several hundred homes and businesses for non-potable uses such as irrigation.
